Himalayan Snowcock in Nevada
The Himalayan Snowcock (Tetraogallus himalayensis) was introduced to the Ruby Mountains of northeast Nevada beginning in 1963. The population is now self-sustaining, and has been hunted since 1980. I studied the population in 1981, for my undergraduate thesis, and between 1985-1987 for my Master's thesis. So far as I know, my work remains the only in-depth field research conducted on snowcocks in North America. |
